Bond University Faculty of Health Science and Medicine’s Health and Medical Research: DFAT Showcase

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

I am pleased to advise that at the invitation of the Department of Environment and Science, Dr Sarah Pearson (biography attached), the inaugural Chief Innovation Officer of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is visiting Brisbane on 28 & 29 August 2019. During this visit, Dr Pearson is keen to meet representatives of the Queensland science, research and innovation community to learn more about Queensland’s science capabilities, our strategic science direction and how we support DFAT in their approach to science-led diplomacy (https://dfat.gov.au/people-to-people/public-diplomacy/Pages/science-diplomacy.aspx). The areas of interest for Dr Pearson’s visit are the areas listed below. Your relevant university institutes are invited to attend and present at one or more of the following sessions that will form part of Dr Pearson’s program: Food and AgricultureHealth and Medical ResearchEnvironmentEngineering Although two days seems like a long time, we will also be arranging meetings with government representatives and other organisations so we will have limited time to showcase the great work in Queensland. We have organised these sessions so that Dr Pearson can understand that Queensland has a breadth of skills relevant to her work across a wide range of universities. I would ask that you recommend a leading researcher who can represent the work of your university per topic area in one succinct presentation. Depending on the number of universities who wish to present on a topic you will have between 10 and 20 minutes each to give her a taste of the great work in your institution. Dr Pearson is also interested in learning more about female researchers in Queensland and their research achievements. Please consider inviting relevant female researchers to attend and present where appropriate. The venues for each of the four sessions will mostly be at or near the Brisbane CBD. Over the next few days, Ms Danying Ren in my team may also call your office to discuss a potentially suitable venue at QUT, GU, UQ and Griffith University for one of the topic areas listed, I would be grateful if you could offer support in hosting Dr Pearson and the presenting Queensland universities. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Thursday 4 July and indicate which session(s) your university is interested to present at. Please ensure that you include topics, presenter’s name, job title, and duration (no more than ten minutes please) of the presentation in your RSVP.
