Description
The symposium will bring together a panel of leaders in health professional education from the International Association for Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) and the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators (ANZAHPE). The panel will explore how educational institutions and national HPE organisations have responded to the changing landscape induced by COVID. Participants will explore the range of global responses with an emphasis on Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Examples of innovations introduced over the last 18 months will be shared, with reflections on what worked and what did not. The impact of these changes on teaching faculty will be explored in detail. The importance of recognising and responding to the additional stressors faced by teaching faculty will be discussed, noting the critical need to tend to both our students and our academics.Following short presentations from panel members, an open discussion with all participants will be facilitated by Professor Aviad Haramati. This discussion aims to capture participants’ views and concerns for the future of academia, and discuss opportunities from the ambiguity which is likely to remain a significant part of health professional education in the future.
